Web3 card games also require the launch and aggregation of NFTs. Could the asset aggregation effect behind Web3 card games be a new solution for whole-chain gaming?

1.Overview

It's important to distinguish between Trading Card Games and Card Games:
Trading Card Game is characterized primarily by the use of cards for combat, players need to collect, combine, and use various cards to battle. But Card Game mainly focused on traditional card games, such as poker, bridge, etc.
Whether it's card games or traditional card games, they both fall under the category of strategy games in web3 games.

2.Main Gameplay of Trading Card Games

Intro - Traditional Card Game Representative
Collection and Development Gameplay - In some card games, cards can not only be used but also cultivated and upgraded. Through training, cards can enhance attributes, unlock skills, and gain new appearances.
Combat Gameplay - Some card games require battling against other players. Players need to use their cards following certain tactics and strategies to defeat opponents. This is the combat gameplay of card games. Collectible Card Game, abbreviated as CCG (Collectible Card Game) - Players need to choose their own deck, combining a set that can cope with different opponents and situations. The construction of the deck requires considering the attributes, effects, and costs of the cards, and matching them according to strategy and gameplay style. Examples: Hearthstone, Clash Royale.
Community Interaction - Card games usually have rich community interaction features, where players can communicate with other players in the game, form teams, share strategies and experiences, etc.

3.Gameplay and Mechanics

Splinterlands

is a turn-based card battle game where players can purchase and collect their own cards (i.e., NFTs). Players combine different cards to battle against others.

Token

The token model of Splinterlands consists of two types of tokens. The first is SPS, which is issued on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC). Holding SPS serves as a certificate to participate in the governance of the Splinterlands DAO. The second is DEC, or Dark Energy Crystals, which are the circulating currency in Splinterlands. DEC can be used to purchase in-game items, similar to SLP in Axie Infinity.

Gameplay

To start playing Splinterlands, you need to register an account, supporting methods like MetaMask and email. Upon entering the game, you need to spend $10 to buy a Spellbook (optional, payment methods include PayPal, Gift Card or Promo Code, VISA, MasterCard, AmEx, crypto), which is used to summon a Summoner to start the game. Each Spellbook is an NFT with a unique number.
After acquiring a Summoner, four types of gameplay are unlocked:
  • Complete daily tasks to earn seasonal rewards. A season lasts about 14 days.
  • Participate in battles, trials, or tournaments to earn rewards.
  • Complete basic tasks and wait for airdrops (governance token PSP).
  • Rent out card NFTs, land, equipment, etc., to earn income.
In the Battle gameplay, each turn supports the deployment of 6 monster cards and 1 summoner card. Winning a match rewards players with cards and DEC.
During a battle in Splinterlands, whether a card attacks first depends on its speed attribute. Then, the battle commences, and the outcome is determined based on the selected cards and their combinations, as well as their attributes.

Alien Worlds

Alien Worlds is an interstellar metaverse game created by Dacoco GmbH in 2020, launched on the WAX and BSC chains, and supports cross-chain bridging to Ethereum.
It is the first game to introduce DeFi's Liquidity Mining into an NFT game. Players, as explorers, can explore six planets in Alien Worlds. Each planet is a DAO organization, where players can choose their roles and planets to explore. After selection, they engage in Liquidity Mining to earn TLM and NFT assets or participate in battles to win rewards.

Token

The token of Alien Worlds is Trillium (TLM), an ERC-20 token. It can be obtained through Liquidity Mining and staked to earn rewards. Holding TLM allows participation in the governance of the planet DAOs and is also the currency for purchasing and upgrading items.

Gameplay

The main gameplay modes are:
  • Mining Hub Mode: Players participate in Liquidity Mining, earning TLM and NFT assets.
  • Missions Mode: Players buy battleships and send them on missions to earn rewards.
  • Thunderdome Battle Mode: Players select Minions and Weapons to battle other players. The winner gets TLM and NFT assets, while the loser's minions and weapons suffer health and quality damage.
Both Mining Hub and Thunderdome Battle modes require strategic thinking in deployment. Maximizing TLM and NFT asset acquisition within a fixed time, and equipping minions and weapons to win battles enhance players' confidence and achievement, increasing user engagement.
PS: Here, NFTs act as cards, with the overall gameplay resembling a combination of development, collection, and trading card game mechanics.

Onboarding

The overall process starts with guiding users to create a Wax Account (Wallet Onboarding). The endpoint of this process is purchasing 10 WAX tokens to activate the wallet account, followed by in-game onboarding (ending with NFT purchase). If the wallet account is not activated, subsequent steps cannot proceed.
  1. Wallet Onboarding
Users use the Cloud Wallet service. To activate the wallet feature, players must register with a WAX wallet, and players in walled regions cannot use VPN during registration. After registration, players must purchase 10 WAX tokens to activate the wallet account, after which they can enter the game.

This feature adds a layer of strategy to the game, as the choice of land (NFT) can significantly influence a player's success in mining and battles within the game's universe.

Alien Worlds is a metaverse game created in 2020, integrating DeFi's Liquidity Mining with NFT gaming. Players take on exploratory roles on different DAO-governed planets, engaging in Liquidity Mining for TLM (Trillium) and NFT assets. The game offers distinct gameplay modes: Mining Hub for earning TLM and NFTs, Missions for rewards through battleship tasks, and Thunderdome Battle for player vs. player combat, rewarding winners with TLM and NFTs. Strategic selection of NFT lands on planets influences mining and combat outcomes. Initial game setup involves creating a WAX account and wallet onboarding, requiring the purchase of WAX tokens.

4. Smart NFT Creation and Marketplace

The creation of NFTs for card games is a crucial step. Many GameFi teams developing card games have to divert time from their main development tasks to work on NFT creation and market setup. This undoubtedly increases the burden on the development cycle. The gameplay and mechanics of card games are deeply reliant on NFT technology. Crafting an easy-to-use, user-friendly NFT creation tool and marketplace content is vital. Mirrorworld offers its solution: [specific solution name], aiming to enable every card game to quickly establish its own NFT tools. On this path, Mirrorworld will work with them to find the optimal solutions for NFT creation and asset allocation.

5.Conclusion

In Web3 card games, the role of game tokens primarily includes:
  • DAO Governance: Tokens serve as a proof of governance rights, allowing token holders to participate in decision-making processes related to the game's development and management.
  • In-Game Currency: The tokens are used as a medium of exchange within the game, primarily for purchasing in-game items.
Additionally, similar to the mainstream narrative of NFTs, these tokens enhance the liquidity of NFT assets and the playability of the game. The integration of NFTs in card games increases their intrinsic value and makes the gameplay more engaging, offering a unique experience that combines gaming with digital asset ownership and trade.
